Global Theater
THEA/ENGL 349

Kayon Wahyutumurn

Tree-of-life puppet (kayon, or gunungan) used to introduce shadow play performance (wayang kulit) in Java and Bali, Indonesia.

This course explores theater from around the world, with a particular focus on Asia, West Africa, and the Caribbean.  Students read classic plays alongside postcolonial, intercultural, and transcultural performance texts.  Since the fall of 2013, Global Theater students have posted their independent research online as a resource for one another.  This website contains some of the best student research from the past several years, and current and future students will continue to add to and revise the content on this site, creating a publicly available storehouse of images, video, and analysis on a variety of global theater forms.

Sincerely,

Christian DuComb
Assistant Professor of Theater, Colgate University

(with the assistance of Dan Wheeler, instructional technologist, and Lesley Chapman, visual resources curator)
